The past year saw the world continue to grapple with economic turmoil. Skyrocketing prices, mounting geopolitical tensions, climate failure and the post-pandemic new normal compelled nations and businesses to transform and survive. At the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), the European Union announced a new emission reduction goal of 57% for 2030, and pledged climate neutrality by 2050. Participating nations reached a historic agreement to establish a “Loss and Damage” Fund to provide financial support for developing countries hard hit by climate disasters.
In line with the global trend, Hong Kong authorities have stepped up requirements for ESG reporting and climate disclosures. The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) issued its inaugural standards, IFRS S1 “General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information” and IFRS S2 “Climate-related Disclosures”(“the Standards”), in June 2023. While local jurisdictions may decide whether to adopt the Standards, when and to what extent they are adopted, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) already expressed its intention to incorporate the Standards to the ESG-reporting framework for Hong Kong-listed companies. Released in February 2023, the Hong Kong Budget 2023-24 announced plans to vigorously promote the development of low-carbon economy, including the setting up of a Green Technology and Finance Development Committee to formulate actions. The Government strives to build a green technology ecosystem in Hong Kong and drive the city to become an international centre of green technology and green finance.
As one of the most influential business magazines in Hong Kong with a global vision and Greater China connection, the Chinese Edition of Bloomberg Businessweek maintains a keen focus on the development of ESG. Once again we collaborate with Deloitte in co-presenting the fifth ESG Leading Enterprises campaign. By recognizing Hong Kong-listed companies and asset management companies with outstanding ESG performance, the campaign aims at encouraging enterprises to strive for excellence in ESG practices, ultimately to foster a sustainable business culture with positive impact on the environment and society.
過去一年，環球經濟動盪，通脹問題、地緣政治、氣候變化、以及疫後轉型等危機持續為各國帶來挑戰，轉型刻不容緩。第27屆聯合國氣候變化大會（COP27）上，歐盟表示將在2030年將減排量提高到57%，爭取2050年實現碳中和；大會亦同意設立「損失與損害」基金（“Loss and Damage” Fund），為受氣候變化影響的低收入國家提供財政支持。
因應大環境變化，香港亦加快 ESG 層面的佈局。國際可持續準則理事會（ISSB）在今年六月發布可持續相關財務信息披露及氣候相關披露準則，並交由當地司法機構決定如何及何時採用相關準則，香港交易所表示，將會根據新的ISSB準則加強氣候相關的披露。在今年二月公布的《2023-2024財政預算案》中，香港政府表示未來將投放更多資源建構低碳經濟，成立「綠色科技及金融發展委員會」打造綠色科技生態圈，推動香港成為國際綠色科技及綠色金融中心。
作為區內具國際視野及影響力的財經雜誌，《彭博商業周刊/中文版》一直聚焦 ESG 的發展，今年再度與德勤攜手舉辦第五屆「ESG 領先企業」，旨在表揚 ESG 表現傑出的上市公司與資產管理機構，鼓勵企業貫徹執行 ESG 策略，共同推動對環境和社會產生正面影響的可持續發展。
Categories
組別
The campaign comprises three categories including the “ESG Leading Enterprises”, “ESG Leading Initiatives” and “Special Categories”. Hong Kong-listed companies and asset management companies are welcome to submit applications to one or more categories. The results will be audited by a panel of judges to ensure the objectivity and credibility of the process.
活動共設「ESG 領先企業」、「ESG 領先項目」及「特別項目」三個組別，香港上市公司與資產管理機構可參加一項或多項組別。結果將由專業評審團審核，以確保公信力及客觀性。
ESG Leading Enterprises
In recognition of enterprises with the best ESG performance in their industries. Participating enterprises are divided into the following two categories according to their market capitalization^:
Category I: Market capitalization over HK$20 billion
Category II: Market capitalization below HK$20 billion^As at the company’s recent financial year-end date.
